REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MIAMI - Scientists have discovered fossils ofancient camel in a canal in Panama. The fossil is estimated to 20 million years old.
Researchers from the University of Florida, Aldo Rincon, said healong with several local investigators digging at the former location of sedimentary rocks widening of the canal in Panama. In theexcavations, he found the fossils of animals as high as two feet.
"It was a surprise. We really did not expect to get a camel in there,"he said as quoted by AP on Wednesday (14/3).
The results showed reconstruction, the camel has a long snout on the head, but do not have a hump. In the past 20 million years ago,the canal is expected to be a rain forest inhabited by a number ofspecies.
"We also found a marlin fish, turtles, and some fossil horses," he said.
