Bang1iao dam designed to withstand flooding (306 mm (12 inches)of rainfall per day). In August 1975, there was a flood, pouring morethan a year of rainfall in 24 hours, weather forecasts failed topredict. Sluice gate is not able to handle the overflow of water, partlydue to obstruction of sedimentation. As a result of obstruction, 64dams failed.
When the dam finally burst, it caused a big wave, 10 kilometers (6 miles) wide, 3-7 meters (9-23 feet) high, rushed down into the plainsbelow at nearly 50 kilometers per hour (31 mph) . nearly dozens ofarea 55 kilometers long, 15 kilometers wide, is made as large as12,000 km ² lake (4,600 square miles). Evacuation is not yet fully delivered due to bad weather conditions and communication
